Aloha – Welcome to Capital Outrigger Canoe Club
Every canoe has a unique personality!
Learning canoeing skills can take you to far away places!
Capital Outrigger Canoe Club, initially founded as “Ohana Kai” (family of the sea) took on its updated name in 2016, with 70 dedicated members and three boats.
The Capitol Outrigger Canoe Club (COCC) is located in Sacramento and is the official outrigger canoe program of the Sacramento State Aquatic Center. We are an active member of the Northern California Outrigger Canoe Association (NCOCA). Our practices take place on beautiful Lake Natomas, 18 miles east of downtown Sacramento.
Outrigger canoeing is fun! As a low-impact sport, it’s ideal for people of all ages and abilities to get or stay in condition. Programs are designed for those just getting started, recreational, and competitive paddlers.
Outrigger canoes are uniquely characterized as having a lateral support fashioned to the boat for stabilization. Historically known for ancient sea travel throughout Polynesian, it has evolved as a recreational sport including competitive racing.
All are welcome! “E komo mai”
